The last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park was pure movie magic as Everton snatched a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, with James Tarkowski’s 98th-minute equalizer causing chaos that ended with four red cards.

Celtic were beaten 2-1 at home by Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League play-off. Harry Kane scored Bayern’s second goal, but Daizen Maeda’s late goal kept Brendan Rodgers’ side in the hunt for next Tuesday’s second leg.

Arsenal have a blow with reports Kai Havertz could be out for the rest of the season. Plymouth won big in the Championship and Burnley set a record on Wednesday.

Derby Day

Liverpool looked like they would be nine points clear at the top of the Premier League after coming back from an early deficit. Beto gave Everton the lead, but Alexis Mac Allister equalized and Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead with a 73rd-minute goal. But Tarkowski volleyed in the 98th minute to level the score and send the fans wild.

The fans ran on the pitch and Abdoulaye Doucouré’s celebration in front of the Liverpool fans led to a bust-up with Curtis Jones. Both were sent off for their second yellow, and Liverpool boss Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off by ref Michael Oliver.

But Tarkowski scored a volley to equalize for David Moyes’ Everton in the eighth minute of added time, causing wild celebrations.

Fans rushed onto the pitch, and Abdoulaye Doucouré cheered in front of the visiting supporters.

Curtis Jones confronted him, and a fight broke out, leading to both players being sent off with second yellow cards. Then, Reds manager Arne Slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff were also sent off by referee Michael Oliver.

Celtic still have a chance.

At Celtic Park, Bayern controlled the first half and went ahead just before halftime with a powerful goal from Michael Olise.

Kane then increased the lead by scoring his 29th goal of the season with a volley four minutes after halftime, connecting with Joshua Kimmich’s corner.

But Celtic found a way to respond with 11 minutes left in regular time, as Maeda scored with a header to keep their hopes alive for next Tuesday’s second leg.

Is Havertz Coming Back This Season?

This season, Arsenal has had several injury issues, and now they have another. According to reports, forward Kai Havertz will miss the remainder of the season after tearing his hamstring at the team’s training camp in Dubai.

Plymouth’s 5-1 victory over Millwall at Home Park lifted them off the bottom of the Championship standings, only three days after their unexpected FA Cup success over Liverpool. Ryan Hardie scored twice during the game, including the game-winning goal on Sunday.

After defeating Hull 2-0, third-place Burnley became the first second-tier team in English Football League history to maintain ten consecutive clean sheets. With a 3-1 victory over Middlesbrough, Sheffield United closed the gap on leaders Leeds to two points and remained three points behind Burnley.

Blackburn defeated West Brom 2-0 in spite of manager John Eustace’s absence while he talks with Derby.

Shamrock Rovers is creating history in the Conference League when the Europa League and Conference League play-off rounds get off on Thursday.
